The Healthy Boy Lifestyle Plan

So spring is here, summer is around the corner and you are beginning to have visions of yourself squeezing into skinny jeans or running along the beach in your short shorts to the soundtrack of Baywatch playing in your head. But winter was good to you. Yes those chocolate brownies, extra-tall frappucinos and bowls of warm comforting pasta have left you feeling a little pudgy. Even the thought of you squeezing into those Speedos is enough to make you let out a gasp of horror.

No worries. We can have you slim and slender and frolicking on the edge of the water with your summer lover in no time. Let me introduce you to The Healthy Boy Lifestyle Plan and some of my upcoming articles. They are part changes that I have already adopted and am benefiting from, part research as I go into more depth about things I am considering adopting, and part trial and error.

(Below is just the outline of some of my articles, not necessarily in order, but I will go through them individually in more detail in future posts).

THE HEALTHY BOY LIFESTYLE PLAN

Healthy Boy Shock Tactics
I’ve done some research into some of the foods we are eating to get to the bottom of what’s in really them so you know what to avoid. Hot dogs, burgers, Shakes, Sodas…nothing is off limits. Not only can they be detrimental to your waist, but also the way they are prepared and the ingredient list will leave you feeling nauseous

Eating every 2 – 3 hours
Why eating every 2 – 3 hours helps control your blood sugar levels, provides your body and muscle with a steady supply of nutrients, and how it helps you lose weight.

Hot Products
We are going to take a look at some of the newest revolutionary food products on the market that are designed to help you get on your way to your fat loss and / or muscle building goals. Do they live up to the hype? are they effective? and is it worth handing over your hard earned cash.

Carbohydrates, fats and Proteins
A little confused about what's classified as a good carb and what's not? Here I go into detail the difference between them as well as fats and proteins, and why you don't necessarily have to avoid that bread basket on top of your table... you certainly don't avoid making eye contact with that sexy waiter who brought it to you.

Whole foods
Why it’s important to avoid processed, packaged food, and how eating whole foods impacts your hormones and health, and can leave you feeling like a brand new person.

Eliminate Sugar
This topic is far from short and sweet, so I go sift through the information out there and provide you with the facts. This includes the different types of sugar, their effects on the body and why it should be considered the enemy.

Eliminate bad fats
I discuss the difference between certain fats, how one can make you feel better and live healthier in many ways, and how one can totally derail any healthy lifestyle without you even knowing it.

Eliminate excess and hidden salt (sodium)
How much salt should we consume per day? And what’s the effect it has on our bodies? You'll be surprised how much this little critter is hidden in some of your favorite unsuspecting and "healthy" foods.

Exercise
I go through my weight training and exercise program, what works for me, what doesn’t, and why too much cardio will inhibit any muscle and strength gains, and how it can reduce testosterone levels. What? Too much cardio? Yes, it exists and it could be causing you to plateau in your muscle building or fat loss efforts.

Beverages
How much water should we drink each day and what happens if we don’t. Why “healthy” sports drinks and sugar-laden soda should be avoided at all costs and one beverage you should consume every day...and no, it isn't alcohol (sigh).

Sleep
You made your bed, now you sleep in it! Why its important to any muscle building or weight loss regime and what happens when we don’t get enough of it.

Remove artificial ingredients from your food
The effects of artificial ingredients and chemicals on our bodies, what surprise foods contain them and how to decode an ingredient list.

Organic Food
Are you going nanas with this new organic craze that seems to be sweeping the planet? Is organic really better? I look into the pros and cons of an organic lifestyle.

Artificial sweeteners
What they are really made of, what they are doing to your insides, and which one you should be using above all others.

Natural Supplements
Take a chill pill and relax as I discuss what supplements I take, which ones I don't, and how taking some supplements can change the way you look and feel – all found at your local grocery store

Muscle Building supplements
There are so many out these days and did you know that those muscle and health magazines you buy and take advice from are actually owned by the supplement companies who’s products are advertised in the pages? I discuss which ones have worked for me, what studies support my recommendations, and which ones are a waste of time.

Avoid Soy
Love flexing those guns in the mirror after you shower when no one is watching? Why every guy should put down their soy lattes, what consuming soy based products does to the male body and why it can totally derail your fitness program.

Reduce Chemicals in your living environment
Pick your poison. Taking it all to the next step, I research what chemicals are hidden in our household cleaning and personal styling products, and how eliminating them can benefit the environment and you.

  1. Hey, Healthy Boy! I'm interested in following your journey to well-being and fitness. I've noticed much of your plan includes similar points to a book I've been reading called "Food Rules," by Michael Pollan. I'm wondering if you've read it and what you think of it. Good luck! -Joshua
